Sebastien Loeb Wins : Rally Finland [2012] WRC

The Final day of Rally Finland was the biggest show buster! By the end of SS16 and for the final service, it was almost sure about who the winner was! Sebastien Loeb strikes again!

Loeb's winning streak never becomes loose... ever! It was a fantastic start till the end domination by the french man with his hands on Citroen's ride. I wonder whether he can do it without Citroen, and the answer is almost yes. Given his hands on with the F1 test stint once and in the LeMans which he also won, proves it.

Rally Finland was as exciting as ever before, and will be forever too! By the grace of God, it will.. The final two stages being 33.01kms of Ouninpohja been run twice albiet the regrouping for the second run, was the most celebrated stage of the rally and even in the Championship too. It is basically a very fast flowing stretch of road which feels like it is never going to end, but ends faster than anyone imagine.. just over 15minutes, that over a whopping 120km/h on an approx average. Petter Solberg still has his world record here from his Subaru days, way back in 2004, with an average of 130km/h.

Mikko Hirvonen takes the second spot and Jari-Matti Latvala takes the final podium position. Petter Solberg finished 4th, which is nearly the same leaderboard since day 1. Mads Ostberg however lost his 5th place to Estonian Ott Tanak after his car experienced trouble on SS 16, however that was very brief and he regained his 5th position by the end of the rally.

On the S2000 category, Swedish P.G.Andersson of Proton Motorsports in his Proton Satria S2000, takes the top honors as Craig Breens crashed out on the first run of the Ouninpohja SS17. Yazeed Al-Rajhi from Saudi Arabia takes the second with his Ford Fiesta S2000, while Juha Salo driving Factory Proton Satria S2000 gets on the final podium position.

In WRC Academy Elfyn Evans won the Rally Finland, while P. Tidemand takes second & Brenden Reeves on the third position.

Rally Finland : Day 2 - WRC [2012]

There was plenty of crashes and drama on Day 2. Loeb proved his elite driving style and stays on top, and most probably wins the event too... WRC is kind of getting boring now... LOL

Down the pack, the top 5 are sticking with their respective positions, with Mikko trailing behind the leader by a mere 5 seconds. We can expect team-order now or what is the question? I think Citroen WRT will give him a relaxation this time around and let him charge on his homeground.

We can definitely say it was a lucky day for Novikov, as he crashed on SS7 & still managed to complete the stage and also made it to the service. His car was mostly fixed in the service & he went on to make good times.. now that called luck, and being very lucky for once in a time!! Also it is not an easy feeling and position to drive the damaged car through the next stage before the service..

Latvala is on third overall at the end of the day with about 21+seconds behind the leader & Petter a second down Latvala. Mads Ostberg sits at 5th position with about 47+seconds behind the overall leader Sebastien Loeb.

More updates to follow soon.

Here is the video updates for the day.

WRC 2012 : Rally Finland - Qualifying & Day 1

Rally Finland is ON, but there was weather playing its cards early on the day of Qualifying. The rains receded later though, but there were many damp sections on the stage of test for excellence.

Well, the way things are going from the past 8 or more years, you need to be Loeb to make it a mark on any test on a race car, especially WRC! Loeb emerged fastest, closely followed by his team-mate Mikko, Ford WRT's Latvala & Petter on 4th.

Loeb chose to start 10th on day 1, then the rest of the fastest followed behind him!

WRC NORF 2012 : Update - Recce Day [-1]

Most of the top drivers/co-drivers have almost finished with their Reconnaissance or 'Recce' [as it is usually called by the Rallying community] and filling up those pages full of scribbles.

Novikov had his surprise this time as one of his fans presented him with a tree stump to get autographed... really, really crazy Finn's eh?! Well it was the same stump of a tree on to which Evgeny crashed his C4 WRC in 2009 NORF which ended his rally then! How much more dramatic & nostalgic can it get anyway? Pretty funny too, isn't it?!

With just a day before to the opening of the Gravel GP & its already pouring at the service park / HQ. The pace-notes prepared for the rally may affect due to weather changes, and always wonder how the competitors do it.

The pictures featured here [courtesy] WRC Clothing are from the official Facebook page for buying the official clothing line of WRC. The shop is setup at the service park / Rally HQ area for those interested to get hold those exclusive merchandise, it is an wonderful opportunity.

Hope the stages are not going to be slushy like it happened at Portugal early this year. Normally it is dry weather in Rally Finland, and there were some rains in the past for a few times.

Rains stopped later though, sky  cleared and sun was shone. Hope this short spell of rains helps both for fans and competitors to enjoy their outing, as it will be less dusty for the fans and little grippy [minus standing water] over the loose surface helping drivers to tackle those winding undulating fast gravel roads.

Neste Oil Rally Finland : WRC 2012 [Round 8]

After a mid-season break, the second and exciting half of the 2012 World Rally Championship is back on with the rally of blind crests, big jumps and fastest stages in the WRC calendar which fondly called as Finnish GP on gravel. Originally a Scandinavian's only rally winners event has seen non-Scandinavian's winning too starting with Carlos Sainz in 1990, but only a few succeded .

Welcome to Rally Finland, proudly promoted by the homeland company Neste Oil, simply put the rally is termed NORF for Neste Oil Rally Finland. The history of the event dates back to '1000 Lakes rally' as it was called then in early 1960's, where the initial rallies were held in 'stage format' racing against the clock, which was pretty close to the current WRC format.

Coming back from the brief history, the last year's winner the 8-time consecutive unbeaten World Rally Champion Sebastien Loeb is the man to watch out along with the fastest Finn's Citroen WRT's & Loeb's team mate Mikko Hirvonen, who lost out the last event as he crashed on the very first stage of the NORF 2011.

His former team-mate and Ford WRT's Jari-Matti Latvala is also a serious contender and has the reputation of going flat-out, but also has equal or more share of crashes. Now Ford WRT's no1 driver Petter Solberg's Ouninpohja stage's record still holds good till-date and he too is one to watch out this weekend. With the top two works team on the listing, Prodrive Mini WRC team's Daniel Sordo is yet another non-Scandinavian  who has the potential and is back, but is absent!

Down the top 5, the Russian Evgeny Novikov has the pace, but still not the right kind of experience, however his insane jump over a crest is still doing the rounds. Thierry Neuville is young and fast on the Citroen Junior WRT, and since Qatari Nasser Al-Attiyah is in the Olympics, his car is driven by invitational driver and former Subaru WRT driver Australian Chris Atkinson fondly called Atko in the Citroen DS3 WRC.

However his speed still questionable as he has driven the current regulations car only in Rally Mexico of Monster WRT, a Ford Fiesta WRC. Norwegian Mads Ostberg will be driving his Fiesta WRC, and could be on a serious contest too. Well, there are many more privateers who have the speed, but not the luck and support of a works team. Finnish Jari Ketoma will be on the attack too, with his Ford Fiesta WRC supported by DMack Tires

Coming to the S2000 attack VW Motorsports are the VIP's here, but they too are more interested in learning curve for the development of the Polo R WRC for the next season. Proton Motorsports, another works team are there with P.G.Andersson who has the reputation and speed to make it to the top along with Alister McRae [younger brother of Colin McRae]. New Zealander Hayden Paddon has moved to another Austrian team Baumschlager Rallye & Racing who are supporting his attack and is one to watch, after his recent success in his hometurf.

WRC Academy has the top three who are doing good, but in comparision to the 2011 season, the opening of the Academy, it is not so celebrity anymore. However, with the recent happenings on the top order, .ie., the WRC itself we cannot complain more! Alastair Fisher tops with 46 points on the aggregate, followed by Elfyn Evans with 38points on the chart, closely followed by Brendan Reeves with 35points standing third overall.

Nevertheless, it is going to be one fun & watchful rally to spend this weekend without any doubt! Keep a check on the updates on our WRC channel for more updates and reports.

London 2012 Olympic Games : [Shooting] 10m Air Rifle Men's Final

The 10m Air-rifle shooting concluded with the following results from the Royal Artillery Barracks at the London 2012 Olympic Games,

  1. Gold Medal - Alin George Moldoveanu (Romania)
  2. Silver Medal - Niccolo Campriani (Italy)
  3. Bronze Medal - Gagan Narang (India)
With just five shooting events at the inaugural 1896 Olympic Games, there are about 15 events in the Olympic programme now, which are divided into three different groups: rifle, pistol and shotgun. The rifle and pistol competitions are held on shooting ranges, where marksmen aim at targets at distances of 10, 25 and 50 metres. In the shotgun event, competitors shoot at clay targets propelled at a series of different directions and angles.

This picture [with the violet background] is of one of our WRC's top 10 driver, Nasser Al-Attiyah. Tomorrow will be his day out to put his ultimate test in this Olympics.

Also Gagan Narang became the first medal in this Olympics for India.
