It’s been a while since we saw the WRC cars in action. The COVID-19 pandemic has put a brake on all the motorsports actions across the globe. Now, after three months the WRC cars are back in their territory.

Toyota and Hyundai landed in the spiritual home of rallying — Finland — to warm up the cars and the drivers. The fast and flowing Finnish forest roads were a perfect arena to get things back on track. Despite the Rally Finland being cancelled for this year, we got a glimpse of action, courtesy of development tests!

Kalle Rovanpera, Sebastien Ogier and Elfyn Evans drove the Yaris WRC in anger after almost three months. Team led by Tommi Makinen carried out development tests and it was also a warm up for the drivers. As usual it was quite spectacular to watch the Yaris WRC flying over the crests with the sweet sound of the rev limiter!

Hyundai drivers Ott Tanak and Thierry Neuville also got some valuable seat time on the fast Finnish stages. The original testing schedule was halted after Neuville crashed the i20 WRC. The team was up on their toes to prepare the second car for the second round of tests. Hyundai tested the revised front and rear aero and the legendary Ouninpohja stage was also part of the testing program.

WRC is yet to announce the revised calendar for this season, but the teams are getting ready for the challenge ahead. We can’t wait for the season to resume!
