Impact of Namma Metro Yellow Line, Bengaluru

Namma Bengaluru, titled the Silicon City of India, finally had the much-awaited Yellow Line of Namma Metro commissioned into service, and it was welcomed by a vast number of commuters. Perhaps one of the greatly needed public transportation infrastructures that was widely anticipated, yet questioned & criticized because of the timeline it took from proposal to fully operational as of today.

The Yellow Line that connects the Hosur Road industrial & IT hub of the city down south to the central district to its far ends on the north & east is not just welcome but was an absolute necessity to those who lived & worked on the far ends of the city.

With the road traffic becoming unusable during peak hours with bumper-to-bumper traffic for hours on end, a Metro train was the only possible solution to beat individual users of different priority of needs occupying the same road at the same time window. For the far-fetched commuters who had no other options other than packing on the same road infrastructure, the metro offers a whole new dimension to travel between the ends.

The only cry from the public on it now seems to be coming from lesser train sets operating, which are spaced at around 25 minutes apart on each run. The new trains are overwhelmingly packed, and there are demands for more frequent trains with less waiting period between each train. Otherwise, they all seem to enjoy the relief from the regular noisy, polluted & anxiety triggering road transportation means.
