The Karnataka police have served singer Sonu Nigam a notice to appear before them for questioning. This comes after an FIR was filed against the singer for making an objectionable statement during a music concert at an engineering college in Bengaluru, when a group of audience members demanded that he sing Kannada songs.
Sonu Nigam has also issued a clarification on social media regarding the incident and also apologized. According to him, a few young Kannadigas (the locals of Karnataka State) present at the show demanded a song in Kannada, but rudely, so he referred to the Pahalgam attack as due to the issues of such divisive mindsets of Indians.
However, the locals took it as an insult to be compared to such a heinous incident. Perhaps he went a bit too far in his anger and uttered in the spur of the moment, without realizing the consequences would go so far as to ban him from the Kannada film industry.
Racial slurs have been a common phenomenon across the world for ages, and we, being the modern, educated people in the 21st century, perhaps should think in a much wider perspective than making a tiny issue bigger than its size. This applies to everyone, including me.
