Fresh voilence and arson erupts in the areas from the hilly state of Manipur, India. Two civilians were injured as mobs clashed with security forces overnight in Imphal town and attempts were made to torch the houses of BJP leaders, officials said on Saturday.

In separate incidents, automatic gunfire was reported from Kwakta in Bishnupur district of Manipur and Kangvai in Churachandpur district through the night. An attempt was also made to loot weapons from Iringbam police station in Imphal West, however, no weapons were stolen.

The Chief Minister of Manipur N. Biren Singh stated that the riots were instigated by “prevailing misunderstanding between two the communities” and appealed for restoration of normalcy.

Shashi Tharoor, a Member of Parliament, called for President's rule and blamed the BJP-led government, saying it has failed to govern the state.

Olympic medallist Mary Kom, a native of Manipur, tweeted an appeal seeking help for her home state.
