Nearly 209 Pakistanis (as confirmed by the FIA) are said to be died in the boat wreck last week inside the international waters of Greece, in a human-trafficking attempt. According to the Greek officials, amongst the few survivors of the fishing boat which was smuggling people to possible destination, Italy, capsized off Greece’s coast leading to a catastrophic death toll. It is also claimed that the numbers could be significantly higher than official figures that claims deaths as '82 and the number of survivors at 104, of whom 12 were Pakistanis'.
Onboard the ill-fated vessel are told to be hundreds of people from different nationalities, including Pakistani, Egyptians, Syrians and Palestinian refugees and migrants, in what is regarded as the worst sea disaster in years for the region since the Syrian war.
It is believed that between 400 and 750 people had crammed onto the 20- to 30 metre-long (65- to 100-foot) fishing boat which then capsized and sank early on June 14 about 80km (50 miles) from the southern coastal town of Pylos. Only 104 people have been rescued alive.
In an attempt to 'clear the vessel from their waters to avoid migrant & refugee responsibilities', Greek Coast Guard ship is said to have tugged the trawler too hard and too fast causing it to capsize and sink taking most onboard down the chilly waters to their grave. Only the able and uninjured is said to have survived, and been rescued later by a luxury superyacht Mayan Queen.
