A renowned opthalmologist Dr Bhujanga Shetty, chairman of Narayana Nethralaya a super specialty eye hospital, passed away in Bengaluru. It is reported that he suffered a massive cardiac arrest at a private hospital in Yeshwanthpur, sources said.
A close relative of Dr. Devi Shetty, a noted cardiac surgeon and Founder of Narayana Health. Dr. Bhujanga Shetty aged 69, was an active personality, an ardent follower of Keto diet & had advised thousands to switch to the Ketogenic dietary lifestyle.
Dr. Bhujanga Shetty was an alumnus of Bangalore Medical College, with an undergraduate in medical course in 1978 and pursued ophthalmology in Minto Ophthalmic Hospital in 1982. He started his practice at a small clinic in the 1980s and grew it into what we know today as Narayana Netralaya today, a super speciality eye hospital.
Being an evangelist for eye donation in the State, he was successful in roping in Kannada matinee idol Dr. Rajkumar for the cause in 1994 and started Dr. Rajkumar Eye Bank. Following his pledge a huge donors came forward and joined the movement, as the cine star's eyes were used for transplant after his death. His youngest son Dr.Puneet Rajkumar's eye too was used for the donation.
The eye bank has been successful in providing vision for thousands of people.
Many of his followers, patients & prominent personalities ushered their condolences via Social messages, including the CM designate Siddaramaiah.
