On Thursday, Indian Cabinet approved Tata's semiconductor chip fabrication unit in Gujarat with an estimated outlay of Rs 50,000 crore, said Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
"Indian government approved proposals to set up three semiconductor units in Gujarat and Assam with an estimated investment of Rs 1.26 lakh crore. The construction of all three units is set to begin in the next 100 days", said Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, after the Union Cabinet cleared proposals.
In partnership with Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp (PSMC), Taiwan, Tata Electronics Private Limited will set up a semiconductor fab in Dholera, Gujarat with a investment sum of Rs 91,000 crore.
Speaking on this occasion, Dr. Randhir Thakur, CEO and MD, Tata Electronics said,

Our partnership with PSMC provides access to a broad technology portfolio in leading edge and mature nodes including 28nm, 40nm, 55nm, 90nm & 110nm and also collaboration for high volume manufacturing. We will be able to serve our global customers’ requirements for supply chain resilience and meet the growing domestic demand,"
At an investment of Rs 27,000 crore, Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test Pvt Ltd (a subsidiary of Tata Group) will set up a semiconductor unit in Morigaon, Assam This will be the first investment in a semiconductor packaging plant by the Assam government, and will be built jointly by the state government along with Tata Group.
Union minister Vaishnaw also informed that CG Power -- in partnership with Renesas Electronics Corporation, Japan, and Stars Microelectronics, Thailand -- will set up a semiconductor unit in Sanand, Gujarat. Investment in the Sanand unit is estimated at Rs 7,600 crore.
Recently, Tata Group had unveiled numerous investments, including establishing a chip processing plant in Assam with an estimated outlay of approximately Rs 40,000 crore and constructing a 20-gigawatt scale lithium battery manufacturing factory in Gujarat within the next few months. With this approval, the semi-fab is sealed for future developments.
