Electric cars plugged in at a EV charging station.

Karnataka has undeniably emerged as the leading state in the country for having the most numbers of state-of-the-art EV charging infrastructure, boasting 5,059 charging stations, as of 15 February 2024. Maharashtra stands at 3079, while Delhi has 1886 to be the nearest contenders, which enables a faster adoption of electric mobility in the country.

BESCOM, the state owned electricity company states that it costs anywhere between 35-40 lakh to setup an EV charging station in the city of Bengaluru. It recently awarded a tender for 225 such charging stations to Reliance BP Mobility Limited to further boost the city's infrastructure in a PPP (Public Private Partnership) model. 150 charging stations will be installed in the city, while the remaining 75 will be on the rural belt

This is part of BESCOM’s larger plans to bring more public charging infrastructure for EV users.
