Volkswagen Group has reportedly begun work on localising its electric vehicle platform and powertrains in India. The new ‘born EV’ platform will be developed under the project codenamed ‘PEAK EV’.

According to media reports, VW plans to bring the 'MEB21G' platform to India. However, it will be heavily localized in order to make it cost-effective. It is expected to underpin multiple SUVs that will be manufactured at the company’s Chakan plant. While the exact details are still unclear, it is said that the focus is likely to be on the entry-level and mid-size SUV segments.
