Chandrayaan 3 - Trajectory

ISRO's most ambitious mission, the second in the making of Chandrayaan 3 to achieve a soft landing on the surface of the moon, is now on it's critical trajectory to enter the lunar orbit.

It is said to be critical, as the spacecraft is under the mercy of the gravitational pull of the moon with very little control. Only if makes the correct pathway as calculated, separates the mission a success; if not will be deemed a failure. This is due to either moon's gravitational pull could make it crash or the earth's gravitational pull could incinerate it or the spacecraft could also be lost forever in space.

This would be taking roughly 3 earth days, and the normalcy would be confirmed on August, 5th. The success of this mission hinges on this critical phase - the lunar orbit insertion, a meticulously planned maneuver that reduces the speed of the spacecraft, allowing the moon's gravitational field to pull it into a stable lunar orbit.

A failure could mean a doom to the Indian Space program, and ISRO is vigilantly tracking every movement with every possible data. The spacecraft will have to navigate 4 elliptical orbit for it to settle into the final stabilised orbit before attempting for a insertion towards the surface for a soft touchdown that is calculated on August, 23rd.
