Indian President Smt.Droupadi Murmu Inaugurates Mysuru Dasara

On the account of the first day of the navaratri festivities of the world famous Mysuru Dasara was inaugurated today by atop Chamundi hills in Mysuru by honorable President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu. She was seen wearing the iconic Mysuru silk saree that was specially woven for her in one of the country’s oldest and illustrious silk factories in Mysuru that was founded during the regime of Mysuru Wodeyars.

Traditionally adorning her with the Mysuru peta by Sri Basavaraj Bommai, Chief Minister of Karnataka who explained about it's tradition. He also guided and stood by her for the entire ritual during the inaugural pooja. By showering flower petals on the idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari placed in the silver chariot was the official start to the famous Dasara festivities.

Smt. Murmu was wearing the celebrated Mysore silk saree that was presented to her recently when the delegation from the Mysuru district administration went to the Rashtrapati Bhavan to formally invite her for the Dasara inauguration.

The saree was specially woven for the President at the Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation (KSIC) century-old factory on H D Kote Road in Mysuru.

"It is a matter of happiness for the people of Mysuru that the President came to Mysuru wearing the Mysore silk saree to inaugurate the famous Dasara,"

said Minister-in-charge of Mysuru district S.T. Somashekar, who led the delegation that extended the Dasara invitation the President in New Delhi recently.

The saree with golden ‘zari’ border was presented to the President since Mysuru is internationally renowned for the Mysore silk saree.

"Mysore silk saree has an age-old heritage as it is woven in the factory that was established in the year 1912 by the Mysore Maharajas. Mysore silk sarees are most liked by women. It is a famous brand of Karnataka known nationally and internationally,"

 said Sri. Somashekar.

After the Dasara inauguration pooja, the President Ms. Murmu was affectionately felicitated by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai. She was also seen very pleased to wear the Mysore peta (the traditional and classical headgear) during the felicitation.

Smt. Droupadi Murmu an Indian politician who is serving as the 15th and current President of India since 25 July 2022. She is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. She is the first person belonging to the tribal community and also the second woman after Smt. Pratibha Patil to hold the office.
