FIA confirms Ford officially as a manufacturer entry for the 2018 WRC season. Last week’s test of Sebastien Ogier & Elfyn Evans for Rallye Monte-Carlo was quite hinting, with the Ford decals promptly displayed on the fenders, along with the Redbull’s logo on the test car.
After a 5 year hiatus, the American car brand returns with more involvement in terms of technical & financial support to its long-time Cumbrian motorsport outfit M-Sport for the upcoming season. It is still unclear at the moment to what extent they will be involved and their contract terms with M-Sport, but the news still makes the 2018 season more interesting with a four manufacturer backed to the world motorsport series.
Ogier’s contract being renewed soon after the 2017 season conclusion in a rather dramatic video also hinted what could be in store, but an official paper mark made public is always the right way forward. However, with the news out and other three major auto-makers in the WRC namely, Toyota, Hyundai & Citroen remains with their field attack remaining unchanged (for now).
Seems good things for now with this news for the holiday season, bringing much joy to the world of rallying community. We wish you all folks a #MerryChristmas & a #HappyNewYear!
