Latvala might have been quick, but it was Loeb who claimed the top honors at the end of Day 1. In an action drama unfolding all throughout the day, all the top 10 drivers faced challenges not just with the competitors, but also with the weather that staged to play with them!
At the beginning of the day, Latvala took the first stage victory by a very little margin only to loose at the next stage. It looked like the tire choices played a vital role in commanding the top spots, as we have witnessed in the past. Haven't we!?.
Citroens were fielding with soft compound tires, which favored them with the wet and damp stages. But for Ford it is difficult to understand why Petter Solberg always chooses the wrong tire choices on almost every round of this championship, however the question is, is it his decision or the team's!
Latvala was also sporting hard compounds, if not less he also crashed in SS7 after cutting too much into a corner and going off the road into a fence post and getting his car's wheel entangled in the fencing wire.. I mean how dramatic can it get to this finn, ever! Always!? Or is it the issue with the ever consistent Loeb and ex-Ford's and new Loeb's team-mate Mikko Hirvonen. The duo managed 1-2 position at the end of the day and hopes to retain it till the finish.
