FMSCI releases INRC/IRC and INTSDRC 2016 Season Calendar


The Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI) is pleased to announce the calendar of the 2016 FMSCI-Indian National Rally Championship (INRC), FMSCI-Indian Rally Championship (IRC) and the FMSCI-Indian National TSD Rally Championship (INTSDRC).


The INRC/IRC will comprise of five rounds, starting with the Coimbatore event (Gravel Stages) on July 23 and 24 and will run until December. Other rounds will be held in Nashik (Aug 20-21, Tarmac), Noida (Sept 17-18, Tarmac), Bengaluru (Nov 26-27, Gravel) and Chikmagalur (Dec 9-11, Gravel).

The Chikmagalur round is also running as the last round of the prestigious FIA-Asia Pacific Rally Championship, and is expected to attract more foreign entries.


The INRC/IRC season is looking exciting with five rounds and concluding with Chikmagalur as a round of the APRC,” Rallycom Chairman Ashwin Pandit said. “We are expecting a good grid for both INRC and IRC championships,” he added.

The INRC will have three categories with a possibility of a fourth. “The Overall category in the INRC will allow SUVs and R2 cars. The other categories are the up to 2000cc and the FMSCI Cup,” Pandit said.

There is a bright possibility of having a Gypsy Cup as a standalone event running alongside the five National championship rounds, given that a lot of Gypsy's participate in the cross country events, especially in Northern India. If we get a grid of over 10, we will run it,” he added.

Most of the INRC/IRC rounds except Chikmagalur may run for one day instead of two to give it a compact format for all and easy to follow,” Pandit added.

Meanwhile, the INTSDRC will comprise eight rounds between July and November, to be held across the country, starting with Jaipur on July 2. A separate Zone TSD Championship will be conducted alongside, exclusively for the local zone talents.

There is an exclusive zonal event in Nashik on July 16, and at the end of the INTSDRC and Zone Championships, there are also talks of adding a standalone promo event titled ‘Champion of Champions’, which if run, will take place pitting the first eight placed competitors of INTSDRC and the first five placed competitors of each zone.

Kolkata-based Ramakrishna Race Performance Management Pvt. Ltd. (RRPM) are the promoters for the INRC/IRC and INTSDRC. RRPM is an experienced motorsports management company having organised National events for the past 12 years. Director of RRPM, Ms. Tamosha Dutta, said, “These are exciting times for Indian Rallying and we look forward to working with the FMSCI in promoting Indian Rallying and showcasing it to the world.

The calendar:

The INRC is the premier National Rally Championship of the country, exclusively for Indian Nationals driving FMSCI homologated cars. The IRC, on the other hand, is an open category restricted to overseas drivers driving imported cars, Indian drivers driving imported cars, overseas drivers driving Indian cars, and with the opportunity for Indian drivers in Indian cars to compete in the class.

CS Santosh Switches To Hero Motorsports Team Rally

Indian two wheeler manufacturer Hero MotoCorp announced its entry into the motorsports arena, with the formation of Hero Motorsports Team Rally. They have signed up Indian rider CS Santosh who has made the switch from Suzuki. The other rider is Joquim Rodrigues from Portugal.


Hero has entered the cross country rally territory with the partnership of German off road racing team, Speedbrain GmbH. Indo-German squad will be using the upgraded version of Speedbrain 450 Rally. They will be competing in international events around the globe, before heading to Dakar 2017. The team will be lead by Wolfgang Fischer, Managing Director, Speedbrain. Team will be supervised by Dr. Markus Braunsperger, chief technology officer Hero MotoCorp.

CS Santosh is India's top off road rider. He has made it to Dakar twice, but this year he was unable to finish the event due to mechanical glitches in his Suzuki RMZ 450Z. After the announcement Santosh comented on the news in his Facebook page, "I knew that one day it would finally happen, that day is here," "So grateful to all the people who have been part of my journey and supported my aspirations. I am so grateful to be part of this world class factory team with Hero MotoCorp. "And having Mr Wolfgang Fischer as my mentor who I consider one of the best managers in the world! It's time to go to work and show up ready for Dakar Rally 2017".

Speaking after the announcement Pawan Munjal, MD Hero MotoCorp Ltd said, "In the recent past, we have rapidly expanded our global footprint and also made significant investments in enhancing our R&D capabilities." "Motorsport is a natural progression for us, as it will allow us to bring value-added products with top-of-the-line technology for our millions of customers." ERC, Acropolis Rally | Ralfs Sirmacis Drives Flatout To Victory

Latvian driver, 21 year old Ralfs Sirmacis has won the SEAJETS Acropolis Rally, third round of FIA ERC. It was the first time he competed in a R5 spec machine, and managed to pull out a impressive win under his belt. In 2015 season, he was runner-up in ERC Junior class. He took the lead by winning the opening test and then he never looked back, as his rivals hit problems it was all his rally to lose. Greek star Lambros Athanassoulas finshed second, his best ERC result to date, but it came with the cost of some drama filled final stages. Jaromir Tarabus rounded off the podium finishers, as it was all Skoda Fabia R5 lockout.


Leg two saw drivers tackle six special stages, including mammoth 33.86 kilometer stage. Alexey Lukyanuk was leading Ralfs Sirmacis by just two seconds before the start of the day, as his penalty was taken back. But straight away Sirmacis was too fast for the likes of Lukyanuk and he pulled a manageable gap. But the worst was yet to come for Lukyanuk, in SS9, he damaged the suspension of his Fiesta R5 and dropped down the leader board. It was a simple task for Sirmacis, just cross the finish line, which he did and secured his maiden win in ERC. 

Local star Lambros Athanassoulas finished in second. His career best result. But before this he had his own story to tell. On the penultimate stage he had a comfortable gap of 35.6 seconds over Tarabus. But in the final stage he was stuck behind a slower car and was in tears at the finish line. Somehow he hold on to the second place by just one tenth of a second. But later he was given back the lost time. Jaromir Tarabus finished third. He was in a heated battle with Athanassoulas and finally had to settle for third. Estonian Raul Jeets was in fourth, making it a Skoda top four lockout. Wojciech Chuchała rounded off the top five finishers. Hard charging Kajetan Kajetanowicz managed to finish eight overall, after he rolled his Fiesta on the very first stage. He won five out of six stages on leg two


ERC 2 honors went to Pole Wojciech Chuchała, driving a Subaru Impreza. He made it three victories from three rounds. Murat Bostanci took victory in ERC 3 class. Piloting a Fiesta R2T, he won by over two minutes. Colin McRae ERC Flat Out Trophy went to the rally winner Ralfs Sirmacis for his flat out driver throughout the rally.
