sideways to the finish
Quad cornering
Today is the final leg of the 2015 Dakar, the edition. The will competition begin from Rosario, to culminate at Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The start order will be reversed with respect to the overall standings, ie., Marc Coma will be the last of bikers, Nasser Al-attiyah for cars, and henceforth!

CS Santosh
sideways Peugeot
Indian rider Santosh CS will be 44th on the grid, and is expected to sneek in to the 20's, but a 30-35 finish will be a good show by the peninsular champ.

The weather seems cloudy, but no predictions for rain, and the conditions should be pleasant; in favour of the marathoners who would be racing their last stage today.

Truck drift
The rally had seen sizzling heat over the desert floor, to freezing cold over the high mountains, stormy rains, and what not! It was a wonderful race of endurance, and was more of a journey to remember; for all!

As all good things comes to an end, so does Dakar for this year's 36th edition.

Now lets move to the live timings, and see who is doing good!

#Dakar2015, Day 13 (Stage 12) - Termas de Rio Hondo to Rosario, Argentina

Route of the penultimate day!

Penultimate - Day 13 [Stage 12], at Dakar 2015.

Kamaz splashing through the stream..
It was a day of flat-out for a few, and keep it clean for the top order boys, and girls! The long liaison on either ends of the special stage meant, it was a marathon route on its own, and the stage passed through through some water splash, tree lined narrow roads, and some flat out section to finish the race at Rosario.

First it was Bikes, then Quads, Cars & finally Trucks passed through the same route and it was a quickie for each of the category and it meant some furious head-to-tail riding & driving. More on the details in the below sections, in the order of start.

Bikes

Toby Price kicking up the dirt!
Australian Toby Price put his best of performance today and won the special with a gap of 1m55s ahead of the chasing Barreda Bort. Joan's team-mate Paulo Goncalves, finished third fastest, yet conservative of this bike, which now has a new engine. He was awarded 15 minute time penalty for the engine change has now eased off the rally leader Marc Coma and he finished 6th quickest, still keeping an healthy lead for the final stage tomorrow.

CS Santosh up the slippery roads..
Indian, KTM rider, Santosh CS finished up by 3 positions to his start at 34 and now is 35th overall. His performance was appraised by Xavier, the Dakar competitor relations officer, for his splendid performance despite his injuries and expressed his best for the sportsman spirit.

Not only that, yesterday he had lent his stocked tire to the rally leader Marc Coma, who had worn out all of his to keep up the top spot. Again the team boss appreciated his generousness and sportsman spirit.

NEXT: Last Day 14, Stage 13 - The Finale!

Final day's route
None of the drivers in the Dakar consider it over until they reach the end of this final day; and for good reason, because every year at least one competitor retires during this final stage.

Final day's stage elevation profile
Caution is the name of the game on the fast tracks of the special stage, at the very least for those who haven't got a position to defend. Because reaching the podium of the 2015 edition at the Tecnópolis in Buenos Aires is the ultimate goal which they have come to achieve.

Just one more day of action to crown the leaders to winners! Just one day! And it will be over just like that.. It is so overwhelming isn't it? That is the spirit of dakar, a fortnight's of action where the world will be compressed within; and will have to wait for another 50 weeks for yet another year's edition.

#Dakar2015, Day 12 (Stage 11) - Salta to Termas de Rio Hondo, Argentina

Route for Bikes + Quads
Route for Cars + Trucks
Day 12 - Stage 11, at Dakar 2015.

The rally will continue on two separate routes, following the famous Ruta 40 and winding through its magnificent landscapes. Drivers won't have time to relax on these fast routes though: the fatigue which will have accumulated by the 11th day of the race (the 4th marathon day for the motorcycles and quads!) will demand maximum concentration on both the route and the road-book. In the cockpits of the cars and trucks, the watchword will also be vigilance; these tracks are often lined with trees.

As the overnight halt was different for Bikes/Quads were different from Cars/Trucks, so was the route for the day. Both the squads took an altogether different route, where the bikers had to climb higher with altitude as well as a longer & grueling competitive section; than the folks who competed from within their roll protecting caged vehicles.

Bikes

Splashing through the desert stream in style..
Joan Barreda Bort on his Honda 450 Rally bike was the quickest across the flying finish, team-mate Paulo Gancalves was second quickest with just 17secs apart and Slovakian Ivan Jakes on his KTM 450 Rally Replica was third with 1m35s more on the timing sheet.

Marc Coma still topping the overall standings with 5m12s lead ahead of Paulo Goncalves, says,
We've managed to get through it. It's always stressful when you have to work on the bike, but everything is ok. There is still a difficult day to complete tomorrow then again on Saturday. I'm not thinking about the finish yet. We'll see, because there are still a fair few kilometres to go, but for the moment I'm happy”.
Young Australian, Toby Price is now on the third ranking with 31m43s to the leader, and 1m32s ahead of the chasing Chilean Pablo Quintanilla. First Indian, Dakar debutant Santosh CS finished in 34th place, 4 places ahead of his starting position and two places up the overall to 36th.

Quads

Christophe Declerck savours his first stage victory
Frenchman, Christophe Declerck was the fastest man today on his Yamaha quad, and Nelson Augusto Sanabria Galeano, second by 6m35s, and Bolivian Nosiglia the third quickest by 6m50s, South-African Saajiman also finished with the same time at 6m50s

Overall standings is still held by Rafal Sonik, with a huge gap of 2h25m1s from the nearest; all he needs to do is finish with cruising speeds to take away the Legendary Dakar trophy. Similar situation for all the top 5 leaders, and risking it will be a no-brainer.

Nasser wins Stage 11
Qatari takes another stage victory today, making it the 5th for this year's edition. Orlando Terranova was just 27seconds slowest and Giniel De-Villers 39s, making it one of the seriously fought battle on the marathon rally. Saudi Arabian and debutant driver Yazeed Alrajhi was forced to retire, as his Toyota Hilux developed a terminal fault, with all help from the Toyota mechanics ending in vain.

Alrajhi retires with car issues

Nasser Al-attiyah extends his lead to 29m1s after today's stage, Giniel on pressure to win, thereby pressurizing the Qatari to end up in a mistake. So far, Nasser has smarted out the South African. Polish driver Holowczyc in another MiniAll4 is on a comfortable third in the ranking.

NEXT: Day 13, Stage 12 - The Penultimate Day/Stage!

Route map of Stage 12
The Dakar will spend the night near the Termas de Rio Hondo circuit, which regularly hosts the Argentine rounds of the GP and WTCC motorbike championships.

Elevation profile of Stage 12
But the Dakar's competitors are set for a long cross-country journey, battling it out in this tension-packed penultimate day. A combative driver could still shake up the leaders' positions even at this stage. And drivers who become too distracted could be caught by surprise by the surrounding vegetation!

For the next two days will be important, as the stages are common for all the categories of competition and with very little elevation changes, the race will be flat out for the tight-competitive timings, less stage and more liaison sections. It is a race for endurance and rigorous competition. It will be exciting for sure! So, see you tomorrow, till then have a good time!
